How To Make $55/Day on Medium

Let’s start with the proof and then jump on strategies.

I started my Medium journey in November 2021, unaware that I might make money from my writing. I’ve always been reluctant to post my ideas on the internet.

However, I seriously started publishing 1–2 articles on Medium in Dec and got accepted into the Medium partner program in a couple of weeks.

My objective is simple: I want to have a steady side income of $2000 through Medium by the end of the year. But, at the rate I’m growing on Medium, I believe I’ll be able to achieve my goal in the next six months.

I’ll make $1500 if I maintain earning $55 every day till the end of the month. Because this is only my third month on the site, my objective was to reach $100, but this represents an 1100% gain over last month.

Am I optimistic to achieve my $2000 goal?

Yes, 99.99%, but there is a chance of 0.01% not being able to sustain this momentum. The majority of earnings are coming from one semi-viral article. Here is the article if you would like to read it.

My simple strategy for making over $66.67/day

I enjoy writing, and I also have a full-time job that is quite exhausting sometimes, requiring me to attend client meetings multiple times a day (Zoom fatigue), read convoluted documents, then write my opinion.

Still, I can manage to spend 2–3h per day on Medium to read and write. Nowadays, I’m reading a lot of these authors to learn the craft.

Reading is the foundation to come up with new content ideas. I’m first and foremost a reader, then a writer. These ideas will help me in achieving my $66.67/day target. I am anticipating a sustainable earning from June to hit my $2000/month target

I posted 55 pieces last month, an average of two each day. It’s worth noting that I don’t write daily. I spend my weekends hiking on the trails.

It’s a lifesaver to have the Medium scheduler tool. You may schedule your post to go live at a specific time using this tool.

Sundays also show a higher level of engagement in my posts; therefore, I produce 2–3 pieces on that day. It’s not gut feeling, but the stats from the Medium dashboard.

Medium story — long or short

I try to keep my Medium stories at 700 words, but if I’m in the mood and the topic requires details, I’ll write 1500+ articles. I picked this habit from Benjamin Hardy, Ph.D., who consistently produces long pieces without the fluff.

Medium engagement

My 6-steps approach is to get more engaged with followers via comments and other writers by reading their stories and giving back to the community by giving my 50 claps the utmost gratitude for the writer.

  1. Read other writers
  2. Write & publish consistently
  3. Follow — I only follow other writers if I like their content.
  4. Clap — Many individuals are unaware that repeatedly pushing the clap button would result in a maximum of 50 claps.
  5. Comment — Give a genuine comment/feedback after reading the article.
  6. Highlight the important points

Top writer batch importance

I also became the top writer in 7 categories, implying that the Medium algorithm will distribute my material to a larger audience. I also published a detailed article on how to become a top writer. Here is the link if you are interesting.

The bottom line

Writing is a side hustle for me, and I’m constantly learning the craft. My purpose is concise: if you want to make more money, you must feed the algorithm by writing more.

Some people can produce 1–20 articles every month and be very successful, but I am not one of them. I first joined Medium to share my thoughts almost daily, but I quickly became fascinated with the simple Medium format.

What is your goal this month?
