8 Side Hustles To Make Money in 2024

Study shows that 1 in 3 Americans have a side hustle to grow in the long run. If we quantify the side hustlers, the number will be 100+ million based on the USA adult population.

Side hustles will increase in the near future because of the flexibility to work from home. People want to work extra hours to earn more money. Now it’s completely up to you to spend 40 minutes or 4 hours extra to work on your side hustles.

There is no downside to a side hustle. There are only benefits to building more than one source of income. A side hustle is the new job security. — Forbes

If you are searching online for the best side hustles, you come across the most commons to start a blog, Amazon store, and/or taking paid online surveys (this one I do not even consider a side hustle). Let’s dive into the top 10 side hustles to consider this year.

1 Rent out your car

There are few car companies where you can register your car to rent out. It works on the Uber kind of model, but you can rent out to people instead of driving your vehicle. You don’t need to find a customer or advertise; the platform provides internal traffic; you can also share your links on the social platform.

You can start at this company called Turo. There is potential to make around $700 per month on average. People also say that Turo is for a personal rental car like AirBnB.

2 Rent your time as a friend

This one is a really peculiar side hustle to start. Yes, you read it right; you can rent a friend to have a chat or share your life stories. You can easily register here at rentafriend.com to start exploring based on your location.

People are up to do almost anything: hiking, phone chats, Zoom calls, outdoors, study buddy. I never tried this one but did a search, and it’s almost available everywhere. But you have to pay to reach out to potential people.

3 Social media manager

This one can be super lucrative based on your expertise. People are always looking for experts to manage their social accounts: Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, etc.

Tip: Simply cold call 10–50 small and medium-sized businesses in your area to offer your service. There is a high probability that they are doing almost everything themselves.

Managing a social media account can be super simple to just upload a couple of images or schedule Pins on Pinterest. It can be complicated to run ads on Facebook Pinterest, shares insights with your client about engagement, and recommend what to do next.

Your posts need to generate business, followers, and engagements to be considered an effective social media manager. After all, that is why they hired you. Almost everyone spends hours on social media. Maybe it’s the right time to use it as a side hustle.

4 Flip domain names

I tried this one in the past. I consider this one like Wine. It can be super expensive if it’s really old and catchy. I don’t do this anymore. If I need to buy an old or short domain, I usually go to this website, Flippa.com

Flippa is also one of the oldest websites to buy and sell blogs if you want to buy a profitable running blog instead of creating it from zero.

5 Online Tutoring

This is also one of the oldest ways to start a side hustle. You can actually choose your time to teach. During my university days, many students used to teach online. I wrote a detailed article and shared 10+ running websites to explore this option.

6 Be an Online Course Creator

I never tried this one, but it’s on my to-do list in the long run. Every top writer on Medium has some kind of online course:
Tim Denning, Michael Simmons, Sinem Günel.

I also believe that everyone has a unique background to share with the world. Here I shared 3 platforms to start your journey.

There is a huge passive income potential to earn from your courses. You need to be good in front of the camera and in public speaking. Some people don’t even show face and teach almost everything on slides, videos, etc.

7 Deliver Food/Grocery

Delivery is booming; everyone needs to eat and cook on a daily basis. I never tried this way of making extra income. But one of my colleagues back in 2019 used to deliver with Skipthedishes platform. He was making good money based on his hourly rates. Again you need to decide if this is something you would like to consider in your spare time.

You can start with SkiptheDishes, DoorDash, and/or Uber Eats.

Grocery
Almost every platform takes a huge cut from your earnings. I read about this platform Dumpling deliver grocery where you can pretty much set your own rates. But you have to work hard to build your customers, then it could be lucrative.

8 Flip Cars

This one can be lucrative. Based on the work you need to do, the minimum profit will be $500 on each sale. Here is what I used to do,

I picked a brand with more resale value, such as Toyota Corolla. Then you need to invest in buying the product, in this case, a car. I used to buy used cars, fix them, get inspection slips, wash, polish, change tires, then put it on the Facebook marketplace to sell the car to make at least $500. Sometimes I made $700+ from a single sale.

Caveat: You have to know almost everything about the car. If you do not know the automobile, you might lose everything by purchasing a junk vehicle.

Bottom line:
Always pick a side hustle in which you have some interest, and in the long run, if that side hustle is scaleable. I tried so many side hustles in the past, but it’s not easy to do, for example, flipping cars.

You have to invest a lot of time, and sometimes you need to learn new skills. Now I have a couple of side hustles, but all of them are online. Here I wrote a great article on choosing your side hustle; it might help you make your mind.
