6 Scientific Healthy Benefits of Tumeric and Golden Milk

Why do I use turmeric every day?

I grew up in a small village, then moved to North America in my early 20s to pursue higher education.

I never cooked anything before I moved to North America. At home, my mother cooked, and the main spices of all types of foods were pink salt, black pepper, red pepper, and turmeric.

She added turmeric to almost every food.

Golden milk

I had no idea what golden milk was until, one day, I fell off the cycle. Apparently, there was not any injury, but my body was hurting from the inside.

Around 8/9 PM, I told my mother that my body was hurting because I fell off from the cycle. Immediately, she boiled a glass of milk and added turmeric. It’s commonly known as Haldi-Doodh (turmeric+milk).

As far as I remember, I was perfectly okay for the next couple of days without visiting the doctor.

By the way, we did not have a doctor in our neighborhood; he used to live in another part of the village, and if the injury was a bit serious, we had to go all the way to the city, which would take 1–2 hours by horse cart and bus.

Here are some health benefits of golden milk:

  • Golden milk is highly antioxidant and anti-inflammatory and may offer health benefits: protect cells, fight disease, infections, etc.
  • Due to its powerful anti-inflammatory properties, it may help to reduce inflammation and joint pain. That’s exactly what it did when I fell off the cycle.
  • Curcumin is loaded with golden milk, which may help to preserve memory.
  • It’s also a stress reliever.
  • Studies show that turmeric may offer some protection against cancer.
  • It also has antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral properties.
  • Tumeric may help relieve indigestion.
  • Golden milk is rich in Vitamin D and calcium, which are the backbone of strong bones.

How to make golden milk?

There are many ways to make golden milk, but here is the simplest one I saw my mother make all the time.

  • 1/2–1 cup unsweetened milk boiled milk (It was full-fat milk from buffaloes)
  • 1–2 tsp turmeric
  • 1 tsp honey
  • pinch of black pepper

During this article research, I learned that some people also add fresh ginger and cinnamon powder.

What is turmeric?

Tumeric or Curcuma longa is a spice that comes from the root of the plant, a perennial in the ginger family.

Its major active ingredient is curcumin.

Curcumin gives turmeric that yellowish color.

Gold milk

Turmeric pretty much has the same health benefits as golden milk. I don’t consume golden milk in North America, or at least I don’t remember when the last time I had it was.

However, I consume turmeric daily.

I highly recommend it to incorporate it into your daily diet if you do not like the taste or smell.

You can buy a turmeric supplement over the counter. I prefer this one.
