6 Habits of Unsuccessful People

Everyone wants to be successful, but only a few people get to the point of enjoying massive achievements. How you can avoid the most common bad habits unsuccessful people hold; therefore, you can break them to be successful in life.

The bad habits can be embedded into our unconscious without knowing that they are detrimental to our success. Here are the top 6 habits of unsuccessful people you should avoid.

1- Spend time with losers

If you run around with 9 losers pretty. soon you’ll be the 10th loser.

— Les Brown

Unsuccessful people love to spend time with losers to discuss winners. The topic is other people, not new ideas. You can generalize this analogy.

If you want to get fit, hang out with fit people, there is a high probability you will pick their healthy habits to become fit. Do not spend time with losers if you want to be successful in life. Hang out with successful, highly driven individuals to learn life lessons and apply the same lessons in your life to reach goals.

2- Blame others for their failure

You must take responsibility for your actions that the first step of an open mindset. For example, you are leading a team; everyone is working under your supervision, it’s your responsibility to run the project smoothly. If someone screws up, stands up for them as a leader.

Everyone makes mistakes, but the leaders don’t blame others for even on your team. Learn to take responsibility and face every failure as a lesson to move ahead in life.

It does not make you a failure if anything awful happens to you. It can happen to anyone. If you accept responsibility for the awful things that happen to you, you may avoid a lot of unpleasant things from happening.

3- Always angry with people

Unsuccessful people are angry with others because they are unsuccessful. They are jealous of successful people; instead of working hard, they focus on successful people and get angry at other people.

For example, a couple of years ago, I was a part of the product team where the principal product director was getting angry almost every day. She was a great person out of work, but the work stress was too much on her. Her team was not big enough to handle all the tasks. Instead of reaching out to the management to get more funds to hire people, she was angry with her staff. Eventually, people complained, and many changed the department, including me.

Unsuccessful people take their anger out on the world instead of finding the root cause to fix the problem. If you ever face something like that in life, the project leader or any of your counterparts is screaming or getting angry at other people who are not interested in succeeding. Successful people are always looking for new ideas to solve problems while keeping a smile on their faces.

4- They hold grudges

Grudges are a waste of perfect happiness. Laugh when you can, apologize when you should, and let go of what you cannot change.

It’s human nature, and it’s completely okay to not agree with everyone or please everyone, and it’s also normal to dislike certain people. But it does not mean telling everyone that you hate that particular person. That’s one of the traits of an unsuccessful individual to hold a grudge.

It’s also a waste of time and energy to hold a grudge against someone. Research shows that holding a grudge can negatively affect your overall health. Just focus on your life and learn to let things go.

5- They are defensive

Whatever you say, they are going to talk back defensively without even thinking. Just leave those people alone in their shells. They are already wounded and now trying to hurt you.

Defensive people always believe in perfection and try to implement the same mentality. This kind of mentality creates problems to grow or become successful in life. Try to avoid defensive people as much as you can and move on with your life.

6- Refuse to apologize

A sincere apology is the super glue of life. It can repair just about anything.

— Lynn Johnston

Unsuccessful people take every situation in life as a competition and try to win every competition by outperforming everyone around them. Another prevalent trait of unsuccessful individuals is their unwillingness to apologize. They take it as a failure to say sorry.

They cannot handle defeat and never accept it; their egoist mind comes in the way of apologizing.
