5 Easy Ways To Start Reading More Books

There is more treasure in books than in all the pirate’s loot on Treasure Island. — Walt Disney

Have you ever wondered why every successful person has a reading habit?

Let me try to answer this question.

Life is constantly changing. Most successful people are leaders; if you want to lead, you must keep learning in the ever-changing world. PERIOD

The best way to learn is through reading.

The latest advancements in technology mean that there are plenty of new ways to learn, with more being created all the time. However, sometimes the old ways really are the best, and that’s why reading is still the top dog when it comes to sharing and retaining information. — bookboon

Before jumping on the easy ways to read more, I highly recommend reading with a pen, highlighter, and sticky tabs. Make notes on the side of the book. You won’t regret making your book dirty.

Let’s learn the five easy ways to read more books this year.

Genre

Don’t worry when people say that, oh, don’t read fiction because it’s nothing but a waste of time.

I used to be one of them. But then, one day, I thought about how it could waste my time when fiction actually takes my imagination to the next level. My brain gets more ideas.

And also, at the beginning, you are developing a reading hobby. When I was a teenager or even in my university years, I used to read a lot of fiction work.

But then life hit, and I had to learn some skills to make money. Unfortunately, people around me told me that the only way to survive is through non-fiction (real) material.

I agreed at that time, but now, I believe that’s not true.

Even if money is just your motive to read and write, here are the top three wealthiest writers in the world.

  1. J.K. Rowling (Harry Potter Series, fiction work), Net Worth $1 billion
  2. James Patterson (fiction work), Net Worth $750 million
  3. Candy Spelling (fiction work), Net Worth $600 million

You can see that fiction writers are richets. You are not wasting your time as long as you are reading and developing how to read.

Read to improve

I moved from fiction to non-fiction after constantly thinking about what area of my life needs to improve.

Then I just started to buy non-fiction books to learn the strategies, how to improve my work, learn a new skill, and how strategies work, etc.

I am passionate about technology; therefore, I started to read biographies of big tech successful stories: Elon Musk, Steve Jobs, etc.

You can implement the same strategy in your life to improve the part of your life or skill.

Place books in every corner of the home

It’s a metaphor. Place more books in the home; therefore, you literally touch a book, and even if you take the book from one place to another, you might pick it up to start reading.

Don’t worry about buying books and pilin gup at home library. It’s called the anti-library.

One day, you might find some time to read them. However, it is a constant reminder to keep you grounded that there is more stuff in the world you don’t know than you know.

Reading list

Have a running list of books, try a free notion template, and start adding books; I prefer to add books in my notion template and sometimes on Goodreads.

2 minutes rule

Don’t say you don’t even have 2 minutes to read daily. Last year, I did this challenge to prove that it’s not about time but parties to find a reading time.

I read 20 pages daily to prove that it’s easy to develop a reading habit. I love to read and keep buying books, especially at discounts. For some books, I have multiple (digital, physical) copies.

The bottom line

The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go. — Dr. Seuss

Reading habits are hard to develop like any other habit. Reading has helped me a lot in my career and personal life.

There are tons of books on almost every topic to explore. Once you develop this peaceful knowledge-stacking skill, you find excuses just to read more books.
