The fundamental level of success is doing the hard things first — if you go for the feared thing first, then the rest of the day is easy.
— Robert G. Allen
Did you ever think why it’s super easy to sit for a long time at one spot scrolling TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, or any social media platform?
Here I am going to share my learning on how to train your brain to do hard things.
Before I dive in, I would like to ask why we see something pleasant for our brain and unpleasant. Is it possible that if we focus on changing our thinking, we change our life?
I also believe that if we change our thinking, we can change our life. It’s all about perspectives.
Here are the ways to train your brain to do hard things.
Break big goals into tiny ones
Arriving at one goal is the starting point to another.
— John Dewey
The above quote says it all. The big goal may look like an obstacle to handle. Always try to break the goal into small goals.
It’s easy to get overwhelmed to handle so many things at one time. Personally, I always use the timeline to divide the hardest part to do first thing in the morning.
Boost your mind with success stories, motivations
I love to read non-fiction books to learn from people’s mistakes and success stories. Reading also helps you to train your mind to understand complex tasks.
I would recommend that you always devote some time to reading on a daily basis to boost your mental power. Therefore, your brain can handle hard tasks. Maybe start with the self-help books, and if you don’t have time, read books. An audiobook would be the best option.
Your brain will automatically pick to do hard things by learning from successful people.
Try something new; take chances
If an idea or goal is just in your mind, it will never become a reality. Sometimes you just have to take a leap of faith and execute the plan to hit your goal.
It’s almost impossible to learn every skill then jump on the problem. Many skills you learn along the way. For example, emerging technology is changing a lot of things. We do not know what is going to happen, but we are solving new complex problems along the way to have a more technologically advanced life.
Always jump on to execute the plan. As long as you are willing to do the hard work, you will learn to grow and find solutions for hard things.
Try Some Sudoku Puzzles
You know you’ve got to exercise your brain just like your muscles.
— Will Rogers
This one is one of my favorite ones. The brain is like a muscle; you need to train it daily to make it strong to handle complex tasks.
It’s also a healthy way to spend your spare time. Study shows that brain games are also helpful to keep your mental health at an optimum level.
Sudoku puzzles will also help you develop your critical thinking, which is essential to doing hard things. I would recommend making it a habit to practice Sudoku puzzles every day to keep your brain healthy.
Some people also enjoy doing crosswords; I love to do Sudoku.
Bottom line
In the end, why do we want to do hard things? There is nothing more important in life than development each day. Growth can only happen by doing hard things in life. You definitely heard the following.
The bigger the problem to solve, the bigger the reward.
Nothing is going to happen in one day or week. You have to work hard and learn continuously to develop your skillset to handle challenging problems.
Thank you for reading, and let me know if you have tips or tricks to do hard things in the comments.
