After spending two weeks at the platform, I read somewhere that a writer can monetize the writing, but a writer needs at least 100 followers and a published story. Honestly, I did not know that a writer could monetize his/her writing at Medium when I uploaded my first story; I just uploaded an article from my journal to share my reading habits. I thought getting 100 followers would take publishing at least 23 articles and a 2–3 months wait time. The most important thing I learned is that the Medium is a strong community to help each one. Your potential to participate with the community will be limited only by the amount of time you have available once you become a member. After reading an article in its entirety, you should always clap for the author and leave a genuine comment. This will increase your exposure and encourage people to see your stories by clicking on your profile. Growing on a network and obtaining followers on this platform requires interaction.
Pro Tip 1: If you’re following someone who is not following you back, try to clap and comment on their stories, and they will likely follow you. Doing this will strengthen your audience will people more likely to read and engage with your work. I always give a meaningful comment.
Publications
Yes, publications are your friends. They already have much exposure on Medium, and whenever a publication accepts your story, you become a part of that exposure. After my first couple of published stories, all my posts are getting published in well-established publications.

All I can say is just thoroughly read the publication and Medium writing guidelines.
