Some days we are super energetic, feel accomplished, and happy. Other days, we’re lazy, feel bad about ourselves or our surroundings. We get into routines and forget the little things that make us happy.
When you feel down, it’s time to take a deep breath and reflect on what’s going well in our lives and how many great things we have to be more grateful.
The beauty of life is in each precious moment! Stop and smell the roses!
— Tanja Christine
Here are the top 4 things to remember every single day to enjoy the tiny things in life.
1- You cannot change the past
Thinking about the past and saying, I wish I had done this. It’s nothing but a waste of your precious time. No one can go back to change the time, but learn and move on.
Whenever I find myself thinking about the past, the following thoughts always stop me at one point. You cannot change the past. Why are you thinking, and what is the point to think?
Thinking about it will only waste your time and test your patience. To just fantasize about life, what you would do, or what could happen back in time, is not possible to achieve right now. The reality will change what we already have done.
2- Kindness is free
Kindness is absolutely free; imagine if we make a habit of practicing at least one act of kindness every day. For example, you can start to practice any one of the following.
- Just listen to someone’s life story.
- Help your friend or a stranger.
- Befriend a lonely person.
- Clean up litter on the highway or beach.
- I always carry a plastic bag to pick up litter on the trails when I go for a hike. That’s not my trash, but the level of internal happiness and satisfaction I feel is unexplainable.
- Give a compliment to at least one person each day
- Help an elderly neighbor
3- You only fail if you quit
Sometimes we fail to accomplish our goals, but that does not mean the fight is over. We only fail if we choose to give up our goals. There is always a possibility to do a couple of tweaks to start again.
Failure is our greatest teacher; we learn a lesson when we fail. That lesson helps us to achieve our goals only if we don’t give up. Never quit; quitting means we are avoiding change; if you want o to grow in life and accomplish a lot embrace the change and be open-minded.
Never give up something that you cannot go a day without thinking about.
— Winston Churchill
4-Happiness found within
We all know that true happiness comes within us. Sometimes, external events might cause it to manifest, but the trustworthy source of joy comes from within you.
Everyone has inner happiness, but most of the time, it’s covered with layers of negative thoughts, worries, anxieties, depression, and fears. We forget to enjoy our life by immersing ourselves in workload or sometimes too big goals.
Here are my 3 steps process to be joyful in your personal and professional life:
- Stop connecting happiness with goals; enjoy the journey to reach that goal.
- Regularly check in with yourself, always ask, are you happy?
- Enjoy the present and always appreciate yourself
Stop acting as if life is a rehearsal. Live this day as if it were your last. The past is over and gone. The future is not guaranteed.
— Wayne Dyer
